Mumbai Champs beat Lions

Riding on the century stand by openers RF Morris and DS Jadav, Mumbai Champs romped home to a four-wicket win over Chandigarh Lions in the round robin league one-day encounter of the Indian Cricket League's domestic tournament in Chennai on Thursday.

Electing to bat, Chandigarh Lions suffered early setbacks but managed to make 262 all out in 50 overs.

Captain Dinesh Mongia top-scored with 50 (3 fours and a six) and had good support from G.Gupta (48, 3 fours).

Later, B Sharma chipped in with a useful 40 to take the score past 250.

Mumbai medium pacers Anupam Sanklecha (3/35), Shreyas Khanolkar (3/39) and Ranjit Khirid (2 for 44) were the main wicket-takers.

In reply, Mumbai openers held sway for the first 20 overs before Robin Morris was run out for 74.

Soon Jadhav too was run out after making an elegant 88. These two put on 125 for the first wicket in 20.1 overs.

RP Patil, who came in for Morris, played well and made 52.

Making good use of the solid foundation provided by these three batsmen, following Mumbai batsmen guided their team to victory.
