ICC pledges cash to re-build NZC HQ

April 05, 2011 10:05 IST

New Zealand Cricket is all set to get $1 million from the ICC to relocate its headquarters destroyed in the earthquake in Christchurch, a gesture that has "blown away" NZC officials.

"It is very generous on behalf of the ICC. I know they were very concerned and saddened by the events in Christchurch at the end of February," NZC chief Justin Vaughan was quoted as saying by the media in Christchurch.

"You're sort of blown away really, it is such a wonderful, generous offer," he said.

NZC is functioning from a temporary office in Lincoln, where its high performance base is located.

"We're working up a current plan to look at what a permanent base at Lincoln would look like," Vaughan said.

"It is the first place to look -- we have our high performance base out here, we now have our headquarters out here so that is definitely our default option," he added.

The 6.3 quake that shook the country on February 22 killed more than 180 people.
