Watson's wicket turned the tide in Lanka's favour

June 18, 2013 09:41 IST

Losing Shane Watson early was the turning point of the match.

It was a big total to chase and Australia needed Watson to provide them a good start.

Watson started with a boundary through covers but that was all he could do as the all-rounder was bowled by Nuwan Kulasekara.

Shane WatsonThe Australian opener was guilty of dragging a seemingly innocuous delivery onto his stumps.

Phillip Hughes (13) lasted barely 10 balls as he too was shown the door by Kulasekara. Maxwell was cleaned up by Malinga after smashing a 20-ball 32 and when George Bailey (4) was run out by Kulasekara it left the Australians tottering at 69 for four inside 10 overs.

There was no way they could recover from that slump.

Watson needed to play more responsibly. Alas it wasn't to be.
