‘Pakistan need to play correct combination of talent’

‘PCB should built on merit based selection’

Imran KhanPakistan's legendary cricketer Imran Khan has stressed the need for his country's side to play ' correct combination' to succeed while maintaining that the nation has 'enough talent'.

His comments came after Pakistan were dumped out the Asia Cup after suffering a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Bangladesh on Wednesday. The top-order batsmen failed completely in the T20 continental tournament.

"Pakistani cricket fans anger at unceremonious exit of Pakistan team from T20 Asia Cup is understandable as our nation is oozing with talent," Khan, who captained Pakistan to the World Cup victory in 1992, tweeted.

The cricketer-turned politician also called on the Pakistan Cricket Board to make appointments on the basis of merit.

"This talent can only be polished if PCB becomes an institution built on merit, (including) selection of its head purely on merit," he added.

Despite Mohammad Aamir's sensational spell, Pakistan failed to defeat arch-rivals India last week. The Shahid Afridi-led side have only managed to beat the United Arab Emirates so far in the tournament.

Pakistan will play against Sri Lanka on March 4.
