Ganguly named captain of Bengal

Sourav Ganguly on Friday was named captain of the 14-member Bengal Ranji Trophy squad for the opening match against Maharashtra in Pune from November 23-26.

The Bengal selectors chose former Indian wicket-keeper batsman Deep Dasgupta as vice-captain.

In case Ganguly gets a call-up for the last two one-day internationals against South Africa, then Dasgupta will take over the captaincy.

Team: Sourav Ganguly (captain), Deep Dasgupta (vice-captain), Arindam Das, Subhomoy Das, Debang Gandhi, Rohan Gavaskar, L R Shukla, Ranadeb Bose, S S Paul, Sourasish Lahiri, Shib Sagar Singh, Manoj Tiwari, Sanjib Sanyal and Wriddhiman Saha.
