ICC fines Bangladesh captain

May 20, 2003 14:30 IST

Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud has been fined by the International Cricket CouncilĀ for criticising umpires during the second Test against South Africa earlier this month, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Tuesday.

A statement said Mahmud was fined 50 per cent of his match fee following a complaint by match referee Clive Lloyd.

Newspapers in Dhaka quoted Mahmud saying: "Some umpires' decisions were unfortunate." He later denied the comments.

Steve Bucknor of the West Indies and Billy Bowden of New Zealand were the umpires during the Test which South Africa won by an innings and 18 runs to clinch a 2-0 series victory.
