Indian eves crush Ireland

Karuna Jain and captain Mithali Raj scored half-centuries to guide the Indian women's cricket team to a convincing 107-run win over Ireland in a limited overs game.

After being put in to bat, Monica Surma (40) and Karuna gave the team a solid start by putting on 78 runs for the opening wicket.

Karuna, who made 56, then added 77 runs for the second wicket with Mithali (50) in a rain-affected match.

Anjum Chopra also scored 28 as the India posted a healthy 212 for 5 after the match was reduced to 48 because of rain.

This was the first time the Indian women's cricket team played under the banner of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Jill Whelan was the best of the Irish bowlers returning with figures of 2 for 36.

The hosts were never in the chase and were bowled out for a lowly 105 in 44.2 overs after a fine display by the Indian bowlers and fielders.

All the eight bowlers used by India were among the wickets. Nooshin Al-Khadeer was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 for 21 in India's first ever win over Ireland.
