'England's tour to India will be their real test'

July 09, 2012 20:58 IST

Former captain Alec Stewart has said England's tour to India would be their real test after an easy one-day series against Australia.

Stewart said the Australians weren't competitive in any of the games in the five-match one-day series, which England has already won 3-0 with the last match scheduled to be played at Old Trafford.

Stewart believes when the England side would tour, then only everyone would know if this one-day team is well balanced, or not.

"England's one-day form at home is highly impressive but it won't be until they travel to India next year that we will know if their formula is just as successful on the subcontinent," Stewart wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

"Beating Australia in this series has hardly been a contest despite the visitors' world No.1 ranking and on this evidence they have a lot to do if the nucleus of this squad is to win back the Ashes from England next summer," he added.

"England will want to make it a clean sweep by winning at Old Trafford on Tuesday before they move on to the most important part of the summer – the three-Test series against the South Africans," he concluded.
