England Lions beat Central Zone

A solid knock of 112 runs by left-hander bastmen Michel Carberry helped England Lions to score a five wicket win over Central Zone in the Duleep trophy match at the Motibagh ground in Vadodara on Wednesday.

Before winning this match, the England Lion team had to peak through some anxious moments after losing of three wickets of Carberry (112), Ed Joyce (54) and James Foster (0) in six runs in a span of four overs. 

It was unbeatean 48 runs sixth wicket partnership between Jonathan Trott (28) and Adil Rashid (24) which made the task easy for them.

Resuming at the over night total of 146 runs for loss of one wicket, not out batsman Michel Yardy could not spend much time on the crease and was out at his overnight total of 57 runs.

After the fall of his wicket, it was Carberry and Joyce who took the total upto 244 runs, adding 96 runs for the third wicket.

Central Zone captain Mohammed Kaif's decision of taking the new ball two overs before the lunch, paid dividends and got the important wicket of Carberry, who was declared leg before after the medium pacer Sumit Mathur made a strong appeal.

Carberry's well made 112 runs included 15 fours and a six. Carberry got one more opportunity this morning when he was dropped by Sanjay Bangar at third slip on 83 runs, the unlucky bowler being Sanjib Sanyal.
