India's oldest Test player Ibrahim dies

India's oldest Test cricketer, Khan Mohammad Cassumbhoy Ibrahim, passed away in Karachi at the age of 88.

Karachi City Cricket Association secretary Siraj-ul-Islam Bukhari said Ibrahim, who ran his own business in Karachi's posh locality of PECHS till few years back, died after a prolonged illness.

"He was out of touch with cricket for some years now. But in the sixties and seventies used to come to watch the matches," Bukhari said.

Ibrahim played four Tests for India against the West Indies in 1948-49 at home and opened the innings with Vinoo Mankad. But after an auspicious start of 85 and 44 failed to score in his next six innings and retired in 1951-52.

Ibrahim played for Mumbai and scored heavily for them in the Ranji Trophy in 1948-49.

He scored 1171 runs in 1947-48, inclusive of four hundreds, a record that won him the Indian Cricketer of the Year award for the season.
