Dhawan scores 146 against SA Emerging side

Skipper Shikhar Dhawan struck a fantastic 146 but most of the other Indian batsmen failed to get going against South Africa on the second day of three-day match of the Emerging Meet being played at the Allan Border field.

After bowling out South Africa for 259 on the first day, Indians declared at 269 for eight after ensuring a slender 10-run lead. At stumps on second day, South Africa were 122 for one in their second essay gaining an overall lead of 112.

Dhawan who had been in indifferent form with the bat finally got going batting for 280 minutes. He faced 177 balls and struck 27 boundaries and was the eighth and last Indian batsmen to be dismissed. Save Dhawan, only Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary (35) made some contribution.

He added 89 runs for the third wicket with his skipper after Aniruddha (8) and Ajinkya Rahane (8) failed.

For South Africa, the hero so far has been their 23-year-old skipper Stiaan van Zyl. After scoring 97 in the first innings, Van Zyl is batting on 64 in the second innings.
