Ordinary outings for Mongia, Zaheer

May 20, 2006 22:13 IST

Dinesh Mongia and Zaheer Khan had unimpressive outings for their respective county sides in the rain-hit County Championship Division Two matches.

Mongia, who hit successive centuries in the previous two matches, could contribute only 10 for Leicestershire in their first innings after Derbyshire declared at 401 for 6 in the unfinished first innings at the Derby Cricket Ground.

The left-handed batsman was out, caught by Travis Birt off medium fast bowler Ian Hunter, as Leicestershire amassed 137 for four before the match was declared drawn on Saturday.

Left arm paceman Zaheer Khan had to contend with one wicket for Worcestershire, who while chasing a target of 285 against Surrey scored 95 for no loss when rain stopped play on the fourth and final day.

Khan bowled one over that cost eight runs but took the wicket of opener James Benning for a nought in their second innings.

Surrey, who had scored 501 in their first innings, whipped the Worcestershire attack mercilessly as they scored 136 runs in only 8.2 overs before declaring.

While batting, Khan scored 18 runs in Worcestershire's 353 for 9 declared.
