South African cricketers were more interested at being rocked by popstar Robbie Williams than addressing the world's media on the third day of the first Test against New Zealand.

Players such as top scorer AB de Villiers made a beeline for the exit at SuperSport Park as soon as stumps were called to attend a Williams concert in nearby Pretoria on Monday night.

With the mass exodus taking place, all-rounder Jacques Kallis was left holding the fort for his team mates after he chose not to attend the British musician's show.

"I can't have hordes of people screaming in my ear the whole night, not during a Test match," Kallis said.

"I need some peace and quiet."

The
New Zealanders were unaware the charismatic British entertainer was in town.

But as they were trailing the hosts by 229 runs with two days remaining in the Test, they chose to follow Kallis's example.

"It's the first I've heard about it, I'm sure the boys will want to get a good night's sleep," seamer James Franklin said.
