Indian colts take 190-run lead

January 28, 2005 20:55 IST

Skipper Ambati Rayudu and Faiz Fazal impressed with the bat as the Indian colts took a 190-run first innings lead against the England Under-19 side on the second day of the second 'Test' at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday.

Resuming at the overnight score of 119 for 2, the Indian boys piled 337 for 5 in 67.5 overs to get a comfortable lead over England's first innings total of 147.

Rayudu (86: 92b, 14x4, 2x6) and Fazal (94: 127b, 15x4), the overnight not out batsmen, stitched a 151-run partnership for the third wicket before the skipper fell victim to a Mitchell Stokes delivery that he edged to William Gifford.

Fazal was unlucky to miss the century-mark as he was bowled by Andrew Miller when he was just six short of the milestone.

The hosts lost two wickets in consecutive overs shortly before the umpires called off the day's play because of bad light, about an hour before the scheduled close.

The game was earlier suspended on two occasions due to poor visibility because of cloudy conditions.

For the visitors, seamer Ben Harmison took two wickets for 45 runs.
