Geoffrey Boycott has been approached by the England and Wales Cricket Board to work as a part-time coach and help up-and-coming Test players.

The former England batsman is keen to take up the job and he recently told Mike Gatting, the new ECB managing director of cricket partnerships, of his interest in developing young talent.

Andrew Flintoff, who is eager to play in the match at Lord's beginning next Thursday, is among those who may be invited to work with Boycott.

In the County Championship Flintoff followed the misery of a second successive first-ball duck by taking four for 21 for Lancashire against Durham at Old Trafford, leaving Geoff Miller, the national selector, and his colleagues in a tough situation.
