Clarke, who made his debut at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore in 2004 – with a magnificent 151 – loves playing against India. He accumulated 600-plus runs when MS Dhoni’s men toured Down Under in 2011-12 and got off to a good start on this tour as well, with a defiant 130 in the first innings.
The 31-year-old had started well in the second innings as well, his 31 inclusive of four boundaries and a huge six off Ashwin.
So when the bowler got his revenge, in the third ball of the day’s final session, trapping the Australian captain leg before, it was dealt the visitors with a fatal blow.
Moises Henriques has helped avoid innings defeat and ensured Day Five will see some action. However, it is only a matter of time before India completes the formalities.
