id-way into the last session, India suddenly woke up and decided to have a final go at victory in the first Test against England in Nagpur.

Once Rahul Dravid (71) and Wasim Jaffer (100) had made sure that India couldn't concede the series lead to a depleted England team, the Indian sloggers came out, bats swinging, to force the issue. But it was all to late, and after losing Irfan Pathan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh, India accepted bad light to formally see the first Test end in a draw.

The pitch at Nagpur, expected to give a few headaches to the touring Englishmen, turned dead into the fourth day but not before England had made their detractors eat their four-day-loss predictions.

The teams will now head for the second Test to Mohali, which isn't exactly known for result-producing wickets.

Join Deepti Patwardhan, rediff's special correspondent, on Chat at 1730 hours to discuss the fifth day's play.
