First Test - M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

About the ground :

Ground staff roll a very cracked pitch as Australia train in the background at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 4, 2004 in Bangalore, India. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is one among the best cricket stadiums in India. Originally called the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium, it was renamed after M Chinnaswamy, who was president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India from 1977-80.

16-23 acres of land on Mahatma Gandhi Road, known as the Cornet plot land, was leased out to the Karnataka State Cricket Association for 99 years. The foundation for the construction of the stadium was laid in May 1969 by the then Chief Minister of Karnataka and construction was taken up in 1970.

The first Test was staged in 1974, against the West Indies, with a half built stadium to accommodate 50,000 spectators. 14 Tests have so far been played at this venue. Out of the last seven Tests played on the ground, six have produced a result.
