Kumar SangakkaraSri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara [Images] has regained the number one ranking among Test batsmen after scoring 130 not out on Friday to help draw the final Test against Pakistan in Colombo.

The 31-year-old, who rose to the top spot in late 2007 and again during 2008, ended Indian opener Gautam Gambhir's [Images] reign, pushing him to second, an International Cricket Council [Images] (ICC [Images]) release said on Saturday.

South African fast bowler Dale Steyn [Images] retained the top ranking for Test bowlers, ahead of Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan [Images], who missed the 2-0 home series win due to injury.
