Chandigarh Lions edge past Superstars

Chandigarh Lions hunted down Chennai Superstars in a close match in the Indian Cricket League Twenty20 [Images] championship match at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad [Images] on Saturday.

Lions, who scored 163 for eight, held the Superstars at 155 for eight to clinch victory by eight runs.

Daryl Tuffey did the star turn for the Lions as he claimed three wickets for 13 in his four overs. At the death, Andrew Hall [Images] made life difficult for the Superstars' batsmen as he also scalped three.

A fine innings by Superstars's batsman Rajagopal Sathish (38 in 26 balls) and Russel Arnold (35 in 30) could not rescue their team.

Earlier, Lions opened with their left-right combination of of Matthew Elliott and Vincent and got off to a good start. Elliot scored 27 runs of 21 balls.

Lions batsman Dinesh Mongia scored a dashing 47 runs of just 29 balls which included eight fours and one six. The Lions' hundred came in the 12th over with Mongia treating the well attended Sardar Patel stadium with some brilliant stroke plays.

Superstars' new induction Nantie Hayward was working some great pace and peaked up four wickets giving 21 runs in four overs. While Shabbir Ahmed claimed two wickets and gave away 30 runs.
