Statistical highlights: India v Australia, 4th Test, Day 1

Statistical highlights of the first day's play in the fourth and final Test between India and Australia in Adelaide, on Thursday.

# Irfan Pathan [Images] opened the Indian innings for the first time in an away Test - also his first instance in the first innings of a Test match.

# Overall, Pathan has opened the Indian innings on three occasions, making 6 vs England [Images] at Mumbai, 93 vs Sri Lanka [Images] at Delhi, both in the 2005-06 season and 9 vs Australia at Adelaide on January 24, 2008.

# Virender Sehwag's [Images] 13th fifty is his third for India against Australia. Overall, he has recorded four fifties against Australia - one for World XI at Sydney in 2005-06 - 76 off 82 balls.

# Sehwag's 63 is his first fifty in 11 innings. He last posted a fifty against the West Indies [Images] at Basseterre in June 2006.

# Sehwag registered his highest score at Adelaide. In his only previous Test at this venue in 2003-04, he had made 47 and 47.

# Sehwag and Dravid put on 48 runs for the second wicket, India's second best for this wicket-position at Adelaide, next only to the 61 between Farukh Engineer and Ajit Wadekar in 1967-68.

# Thanks to his three successive single-digit scores - 9 and 0 at Perth and 7 at Adelaide, Ganguly's average in the series is now 31.00 - 217 in 7 innings.

# Dravid's average of 32.28 (226 in 7 innings) is slightly better than Ganguly's.

# With Virender Sehwag's wicket, Brett Lee [Images] became the first bowler to claim 20 wickets in the present series.

# The 126-run fifth wicket partnership between Tendulkar and Laxman is India's second best at Adelaide behind the 303 between Laxman and Dravid in 2003-04.

# Laxman, with his third fifty-plus knock in the series, has aggregated 354 runs at an average of 50.57.

# Laxman's 32nd Test fifty is his 8th vs. Australia. In 20 Tests vs. Austraila, he has aggregated 1811 runs at an average of 51.74, including five centuries.

# Tendulkar, with his outstanding innings of an unbeaten 124 against Australia, has set so many records/milestones.

# He extended his record for most Test hundreds to 39 and 23 on foreign soil.

# Having already registered 41 centuries in ODIs, he becames the first batsman to post 80 international centuries � 39 hundreds in Tests and 41 in limited-overs internationals.

# Tendulkar has set a record for most Test centuries (9) in India-Australia Tests and, obliterating Sunil Gavaskar's [Images] tally of 8 hundreds. Only Jack Hobbs (England) has now registered more centuries (13) than Tendulkar against Australia. His six Test hundreds(6) in India-Australia Tests in Australia is also a new record.

# It is his best series in terms of run-aggregate, eclipsing his tally of 446 (ave.111.50) in three Tests against Australia in 1997-98 in India. He has now 451 runs in this series at an average of 90.20.

# He posted his highest score at Adelaide, surpassing his 61 in 1999-00.
