Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar [Images], who is on a brief visit to Mumbai, has already signed up for the Indian Premier League and is available to go under the hammer at the players' auction on Wednesday, IPL chief Lalit Modi said on Tuesday.

"Shoaib has signed up for the IPL," said Modi after a meeting with the representatives of the eight city-specific franchises who will take part in the auction here to bid for 77 players, from India and overseas.

Shoaib, who preferred to rest in his hotel room for the most part of the day, had met Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan [Images] at the latter's residence last night.

Soon after his arrival, the controversial speedster went to Haji Ali dargah where he offered a chadar of Rs 5,000 before meeting Khan, who is the owner of the Kolkata franchise of the IPL through the Red Chillies Entertainment.

Sources said Akhtar, who is scheduled to be in the city for a few more days, is also eager to meet film star Sanjay Dutt [Images] while he is in Mumbai.
