The start of the fifth one-day international of the CB tri-series between India and Sri Lanka [Images] was delayed due to heavy rain at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Tuesday.

The umpires inspected the conditions at 0700 hours IST but were not happy with parts of outfield that were still quite damp. They will have another inspection at 0730 before deciding on the start of play.

There is a possibility that it could be a 29-over match if the match gets underway at 0800 IST.

The match was scheduled to start at 0430 hours IST, but heavy rain through the morning delayed proceedings. The groundstaff did a good job clearing the water from the outfield using super sopers and manual techniques, despite persistent rain hampering their efforts.

India's opening two matches, against Australia and Sri Lanka, were also washed out due to rain.

The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team are on a high having beaten Australia by five wickets in the fourth match at Melbourne on Sunday.

The Indians are currently on top of the points table with eight points from three matches, while Australia are close behind with seven points from three matches. Sri Lanka are at the bottom of the table with two points from as many matches.
