Seamers Parvindar Awana and S Narwal shared six wickets between them to help Delhi [Images] restrict Saurashtra to 234 for nine on the opening day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Elite group match in Rajkot on Friday.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Saurashtra openers failed to give a good start against quality Delhi bowling attack led by Awana, who was well supported by Narwal.

The duo put their side in a commanding position on day one at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground.

Only Bhushan Chauhan 61 (153 balls, 7x4) and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja 56 (115 balls, 7x4) put some resistance for the hosts.

Narwal gave the initial breakthrough, removing opener Chirag Pathak (15) when the total was 28. Awana then got Sitanshu Kotak for just three.

In-form batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was looking comfortable against the Delhi bowlers but unfortunately he got run out after making 15.

Chauhan, who was batting patiently, got useful support from Jadeja. The duo added 81 runs for the fourth wicket before Chauhan was caught in front of wicket by Nanda.

The departure of Chauhan triggered a collapse as Awana soon sent back Jadeja and then Jaydev Shah (11).

Kamlesh Makwana was batting on four with Balkrishna Jadeja (1) when stumps were drawn for the day.

For Delhi, Awana took four wickets conceding 57 runs while Narwal bagged two giving away 46 runs.
