Karnataka thrash Himachal Pradesh

Karnataka registered an emphatic innings and 126-run victory over Himachal Pradesh after dismissing the visitors for a paltry 147 in the second innings, in the Ranji Trophy Elite 'A' super league match at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangaloew on Saturday.

Karnataka gained six points, including one bonus point for the outright victory by an innings and increased their tally to seven points from two matches.

Captain and leg spinner Anil Kumble (3/41), R Vinay Kumar (3/32) and Sunil Joshi (2/22) caused the damage to the visitors. Sixteen wickets fell on the penultimate day for 209 runs.

Six-time champions Karnataka forced Himachal Pradesh to follow-on after bundling them out for 179 in the first innings.

In the second innings, the visitors lost wickets in quick intervals as Vinay Kumar, Kumble and Joshi struck.

Himachal Pradesh were only one point to their credit having drawn their first match against Saurashtra.

Himachal Pradesh (1st Innings) 179 all out (Manvinder Bisla 43, Vinay Kumar 3/26, Anil Kumble 3/55, Sunil B Joshi 2/18) and 143 (Munish Gupta 28, Mukesh 32, Vinay Kumar 3/32, Anill Kumble 3/41, Sunil B Joshi 2/22).
