Former Board of Control for Cricket in India president Raj Singh Dungarpur termed the Board's handling of the coach's selection as "unprofessional".

"It was the BCCI's mistake to prematurely announce [Graham] Ford's name. It was very unprofessional," he said.

"This kind of flip-flop is a disgrace to the BCCI," Dungarpur said, on the sidelines of the Working Committee meeting in Delhi on Tuesday.

South African coach Graham Ford was named India's new coach after he and England's [Images] John Emburey made presentations to a coach's selection panel in Chennai on Saturday evening. But on Monday he turned down the BCCI's offer to coach the Indian team, preferring to stay with Kent County Cricket Club, where he is Director of Cricket.

Dungarpur said the BCCI should have taken time and considered all factors before announcing that Ford has been appointed new India coach.

"In such a short time Ford turned down the offer; it was a black day in the Board's history and a great embarrassment to the nation," he added.

He, however, praised the appointment of Chandu Borde as manager for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England.

"Borde is a good choice. He has dealt well with young players and has a lot of experience of playing in England. When (BCCI president Sharad] Pawar proposed his name it was unanimously accepted by the committee members," he said.

Dungarpur revealed that he had requested former coach John Wright [Images], who took over from Greg Chappell [Images], to take up the job again but the New Zealander said he is not available.

"I sounded John Wright when he came for the Champions Trophy but he said he wanted to be in New Zealand [Images] as he is in the process of settling down with his family."
