India whip Sri Lanka in Under-19 triangular

India Under-19 whipped their Sri Lankan counterparts by 159 runs to win their opening one-day game in the triangular cricket series also featuring Bangladesh, at Police Park in Colombo, on Friday.

Opting to bat first, the Indians piled up 277 for five in 50 overs and then skittled the hosts for a paltry 118 in 38 overs to emerge easy and creditable winners.

S Goswami made 77 in 108 balls, inclusive of seven fours, while skipper Tanmay Srivastava cracked quickfire 66 in 98 balls, inclusive of three hits to the boundary.

Useful contributions also came from Virat Kohli (38 in 86 balls with three fours and a six) and S Tiwari (32 not out in 19 balls with two sixes).

In reply, the Lankans were unable to negotiate the wiles of medium pacer Rajendra Jadeja and spinner Iqbal Abdullah who shared six wickets between themselves.

India take on Bangladesh in their next match of the series on Sunday at P Sara Stadium.
