England [Images] fast bowler Steve Harmison has aggravated a hernia problem and is rated extremely doubtful for the first Test against India starting on Thursday.

The England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement on its website, www.ecb.co.uk, that his condition would be reassessed by medical staff early next week.

England's team is due to be announced on Sunday.

Harmison suffered a hernia problem in the fourth Test against West Indies [Images] in Durham last month.
