Kolkata Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee was on Wednesday elected unopposed as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal in the absence of another candidate.

Mukherjee, the first bureaucrat to be elected to the top CAB post, with the only valid nomination for the post, was elected unopposed, CAB secretary Saradindu Pal told a press conference on Wednesday, the last day of filing nominations.

Formal declaration of Mukherjee's election would be made at the CAB's Special General Meeting (SGM) on February 1, Pal added.

"Since there was no other candidate, formalities like scrutiny were all done today itself," he said.

There was no contest for the post following Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty's decision not to stand for election at the direction of his party, the CPI-M.
