Hosts Hyderabad defeated Punjab by one wicket to log four points from the Elite Group B Ranji Trophy match in Hyderabad on Friday.

After dismissing Punjab for 245 in the second innings, the hosts had an easy 136-run target to win but just about managed it with a wicket on hand, as Gagandeep Singh ripped through the top order, claiming four wickets.

Resuming at 145 for five, Punjab skipper Pankaj Dharmani did not last long, trapped leg before wicket for 78 to give M P Arjun the first wicket of the day.

Uday Kaul, the other overnight batsman, played with grit but could not read the flight of an Ojha delivery and was bowled for a well-compiled 61, inclusive of seven hits to the fence.

Harbhajan Singh chipped in with a fine 29 as Punjab ended up with 245, setting Hyderabad a target of 136.

Hyderabad began the innings on a shaky note with the majority of the batsmen returning with single digits. Vice-captain Anirudh Singh scored a solid 40 and took the team to safety.

Arjun Yadav (25) and Ibrahim Khaleel (21 not out) later guided the team home, posting 137 for nine wicket in 38.4 overs.
