Former Board of Control for Cricket in India president A C Muthiah has been elected chairman of the six-member committee that will choose the next International Cricket Council president in 2007.

"Muthiah has been elected chairman of the ICC [Images] Committee by five other members, who will oversee the nominations to be received by the world body and then suggest a suitable person as successor of [Percy] Sonn next year," BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah informed on Friday.

Maintaining that Muthiah's appointment it is a great honour for India, Shah said: "Muthiah has a stature and is known to all permanent and other members of the ICC, since he had been maintaining good rapport with them during his presidentship of the BCCI."

Muthiah said he would adhere to the code of ethics while selecting Sonn's successor.

"I deem it a great honour done to Indian cricket, as I have been known to administrators of the game in the world as president of the BCCI. The other committee members and myself will surely adhere to the code of ethics in selecting the right candidate for the post of ICC president," he said.

Muthiah was nominated by India and Sri Lanka [Images] to the 'ICC Nominations Committee' at a meeting in Dubai, while Bob Merriman (nominated by Australia and New Zealand [Images]), Mueen Afzal (Bangladesh and Pakistan), John Blair (South Africa and Zimbabwe), Stephen Camacho (England [Images] and West Indies [Images]) and Imran Khwaja (Associated and Affiliate member countries) are the other nominated to the panel.
