Sreesanth's inclusion cleared

October 28, 2006 16:16 IST

Decks were cleared for Kerala pace bowler Shantakumaran Sreesanth to replace injured seamer Ajit Agarkar in India's 14-member ICC Champions Trophy squad.

"Yes, the technical committee has cleared Sreesanth's inclusion in the squad. We have just got the letter on the issue," said Board of Control for Cricket in India Chief Administrative Officer and tournament director Ratnakar Shetty.

Sreesanth had to be drafted in on an emergency basis after Agarkar was ruled out of the tournament due to a broken left thumb, an injury he sustained while fielding during India's loss to the West Indies at Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Sreesanth is now eligible to be fielded by captain Rahul Dravid in the do-or-die Group A encounter against World champions Australia in Mohali on Sunday.
