Sri Lanka 'A' send West Zone crashing October 28, 2006 22:39 IST
The star-studded West Zone batting line-up fell like nine pins to the pace and spin combination of Sri Lanka 'A' and was bundled out for 149 on day 2 of the Duleep Trophy match played at the Barbati stadium in Cuttack on Saturday. West conceded a first innings lead of 176 runs. West began disastrously, losing opener and former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer for a duck while his opening partner Dhiraj Yadav also fell for 1 to Sri Lankan opening bowlers A Ganegama and Dhamika Prasad.They were reeling at 21 for 4 before Amol Mazumdar put up some resistance at one end. Ganegema had a brilliant opening spell, claiming four wickets for 47 runs before spinner Upul Chandana took over to claim 3 for 23 runs. Mazumdar, with six hits to the fence, look solid while former Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel played a breezy knock up 38, inclusive of four hits to the fence. Ravindra Jadeja was the only other batsman from West Zone to reach double figure, scoring 16 runs. The Sri Lankans, consolidating on their first innings lead of 176 runs, scored freely in their second knock and were 83 for 1 at close of the play. Mahella Udatte returned to the pavilion on 10, while Michael Vendort and M Warnapura were not out on 38 and 34 runs respectively.
