South Africa elect to bat

South Africa captain Graeme Smith [Images] won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan in a Group B match of the ICC [Images] Champions Trophy at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali on Friday.

The match is a virtual quarter-final contest, with the winner advancing to the last four, joining New Zealand [Images] who have already advanced from the group.

South Africa left out spin bowler Robin Peterson from the team that defeated Sri Lanka [Images] by 78 runs on Tuesday, replacing him with pacer Charl Langeveldt.

Pakistan also made one change in its team that was beaten by New Zealand, replacing pace bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan with Yasir Arafat.

Both teams have one win from two previous matches.
