New Zealand [Images] beat Mumbai by 39 runs in their practice match in Mumbai on Friday ahead of their ICC [Images] Champions Trophy league opener against South Africa scheduled on October 16.

Stroke-filled half-centuries from Lou Vincent (59) and captain Stephen Fleming [Images] (52) and an enterprising knock of 43 by Hamish Marshall powered the Kiwis to 246 for eight at the MIG Club ground in suburban Bandra.

In reply, Mumbai were all out for 207 in 48 overs.

Vincent struck three sixes and as many boundaries in his sedate 73-ball innings, while the left-handed Fleming showed good touch in his breezy 49-ball innings that contained two sixes and eight fours.

Spinners Aniket Redkar (2 for 34 in 10 overs) and  lanky veteran left-arm bowler Nilesh Kulkarni (1 for 29 in 10 overs) shone for Mumbai.

But the hosts failed to overhaul the modest New Zealand total after up and coming Rohit Sharma cracked 61 in 67 balls with the help of two sixes and seven fours.

Abhishek Nair made a plucky 43 off 45 balls, with a six and four fours, while Bhavin Thakkar scored 29. But these efforts were not enough to overhaul the Kiwi total.

For New Zealand, medium pacer Mark Gillespie picked up three for 37 in seven overs while off-spinner Jeetan Patel claimed three for 39 in his ten overs.

Scores: New Zealand 246 for 8 (Lou Vincent 59, S Fleming 52, Hamish Marshall 43; Aniket Redkar 2/34, Nilesh Kulkarni 1/29) beat Mumbai 207 all out in 48 overs (Rohit Sharma 61, Abishek Nair 43; Mark Gillespie 3/37, Jeetan Patel 3/39).
