Sourav Ganguly [Images] on Wednesday relinquished the captaincy of the Bengal team ahead of the Ranji Trophy tie against Mumbai, further fuelling speculation of his recall to the Indian Test side.

A top CAB source told PTI that Deep Dasgupta would replace Ganguly as Bengal skipper.

"Ganguly has requested that he be allowed to step down, so we have agreed to his request," the source said.

Ganguly had led Bengal in the Ranji Trophy opener against Punjab in Mohali. Bengal won the match.

The next round of Ranji matches are slated to begin on December one.
