The second day's play in the Ranji Trophy four-day Elite Division Group B match between Hyderabad and Maharashtra was not possible on Friday because of overnight rain in Karad, Maharashtra.

Hyderabad had piled 254 for three in 70 overs on Thursday, after the visiting captain V V S Laxman [Images] won the toss and chose to bat.

Anirudh Singh cracked an unbeaten century and also put on a three-figure partnership with debutant opener Ravi Teja [Images] to help Hyderabad post a reasonably good score of 254 on the opening day of the fixture.

Singh was not out on 100 and accompanying him on the crease was Ambati Rayudu on seven.

Laxman batted for 100 minutes for his 31 and was involved in a partnership of 63 with Anirudh, who struck a dozen fours while compiling his century.

Besides Laxman, the other two Hyderabad batsmen to return to the pavilion were T S Suman (16) and D B Ravi Teja (84).

Bad light had brought an early end to the first day's proceedings, and the rain that occurred during the night made it impossible for play to commence on the second day.
