Ganguly leads Bengal recovery

November 24, 2006 20:01 IST

Sourav Ganguly completed a three-wicket haul and contributed 43 runs as Bengal were 113 runs ahead of Punjab with six wickets in hand in their second innings on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Super League B match at the PCA Stadium, Mohali on Friday.

At close of play, Bengal were 112 for four with Jhunjhunwala on 33 and Deep Dasgupta on 18 were at the crease.

Ganguly was associated in a 70-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Jhunjhunwala. The former India captain survived a confident lbw appeal but finally fell to Gagandeep Singh (1 for 37), trapped leg before wicket in the last session of the day.

The pair carried the Bengal total to 77 after medium pacer Love Ablash took three wickets to reduce them to seven for three.

Meanwhile, the ball continued to dominate as 14 wickets fell on the second day. On the first day 13 wickets, including three of Punjab, had fallen.

Earlier, resuming their first innings at overnight score of 75 for three, Punjab were bundled out for 157, gaining just one run lead.

Bengal new ball bowler Ranadeb Bose claimed four wickets for 47 runs as Punjab surrendered their last four wickets for just six runs.
