Women's cricket in India received a shot in the arm with the Board of Control for Cricket in India taking control of the women's association in the country. The move was the result of an International Cricket Council directive to all country associations to develop its women's wing.

A women's cricket committee met last week to formalise the take-over and immediately announced it would host the Asia Cup next month and a quadrangular tournament in February.

"The BCCI has officially taken over the activities of women's cricket in India and will be conducting inter-state and inter-zonal tournaments," said BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah announced in a statement.

"All modalities in connection with the tournaments will be decided by the BCCI and the representatives of the Women's Cricket Association of India i.e. president and hon. secretary have agreed to resign from the WCAI so as to make themselves available to assist the BCCI in the functioning of women's cricket activities," the statement added.

Former India women's team captain Diana Eduljee said, "It is a dream come true. Women's cricket will see good days, as players will benefit a lot."
