India win toss, elect to bat

India won the toss and elected to bat in the first Test against the West Indies [Images] at the Antigua Recreation Ground in St John's, on Friday.

The visitors decided to strengthen their batting and went in with only one spinner in Anil Kumble [Images] and three pacers, in young V R V Singh, who will make his Test debut, S Sreesanth [Images] and Munaf Patel [Images].

Harbhajan Singh [Images] and Irfan Pathan [Images] were left out.

For the West Indies Shivnarine Chanderpaul [Images], who did not play the final two one-dayers because of a hamstring injury, returned to the side.

Teams:

India: Rahul Dravid [Images] (captain), Wasim Jaffer [Images], Virender Sehwag [Images], VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh [Images], Mohd Kaif, M S Dhoni [Images], Anil Kumble, S Sreesanth, Munaf Patel and VRV Singh.

West Indies: Brian Lara [Images] (captain), Christopher Gayle, Daren Ganga [Images], Ramnaresh Sarwan [Images], Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dwayne Bravo [Images], Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ian Bradshaw, Corey Collymore, Fidel Edwards and Dave Mohammed.
