Jayawardene-Sangakkara smash world record

July 29, 2006 13:55 IST

Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara on Saturday set the world record for the highest partnership for any wicket in Test match cricket.

The record comes on the third day of the first Test against South Africa.

The duo put on an 576 runs in their unbeaten third wicket stand to break the previous record, which was also held by Sri Lankans Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama against India.
