Sachin Tendulkar [Images] was on Tuesday declared fit to play in the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka [Images] after making "satisfactory progress" from a shoulder operation he underwent about four months ago.

"Tendulkar has been undergoing rehabilitation under the supervision of team physiotherapist John Gloster and in the last five days has made progress satisfactory enough to make him available for the Sri Lanka series," BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said.

"Tendulkar had a final assessment of his shoulder by his doctor [Andrew Wallace] in London [Images] prior to playing the matches for Lashings club," Shah said.

He added that "there would be no need for a fitness test" which the batsman was scheduled to undergo in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The master batsman had his right shoulder operated on by Wallace in London on March 26, soon after the third and last Test against the visiting England [Images].

He missed the one-day series against England and the entire tour of the Caribbean in May-July.

The tri-series in Sri Lanka, involving South Africa [Images] as third team, is scheduled from August 14 to 29.

The Indian team for the tri-series will be announced on July 20 in Mumbai.
