Ganguly's career not over yet: More

January 30, 2006 23:47 IST

Selection Committee Chairman Kiran More on Monday stressed that despite Sourav Ganguly's non-selection for the one-day series in Pakistan, the career of the former captain was not over yet.

"Anybody can make a comeback and Sourav too could return to the playing eleven if he regains his form and maintains fitness," More told reporters on the sidelines of the Ranji Trophy final between Uttar Pradesh and Bengal in Lucknow.

Ganguly was left out of the 15-man squad for the five-match one-day series that follows the third Test match currently on in Karachi.

On the omission of Ashish Nehra and L Balaji from the team announced on Sunday, More said they were unfit and hence not considered for selection.

Describing the team selected as the best available and the right mix of experience and youth, he named Suresh Raina and R P Singh as two players with a bright future.

There was also a good crop of spinners like Piyush Chawla and Ramesh Powar who were set for good times, the former India wicketkeeper said. He also praised the performance of left-arm seamer R P Singh in Pakistan.

More noted the progress Uttar Pradesh had made in recent times, but said available facilities needed improvement to further harness talent.

When asked about the composition for the forthcoming England series, the Chairman of Selectors said it was too early to decide.
