Pakistan drop Sami, Rana for 2nd Test

Samiul Hasan | January 20, 2006 21:40 IST

Pakistan have decided to make two changes in their squad for the second Test against India starting in Faisalabad at the Iqbal Stadium on Saturday.

Team sources said Mohammad Asif and Abdul Razzaq would replace Mohammad Sami and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan.

Asif, a 24-year-old seamer, has played just one Test against Australia at Sydney where he went wicketless conceding 72 runs from 16 overs.

However, Asif has bounced back well from that Australian tour and had a match haul of 10 wickets against England in a three-day game.

In his debut one-day game against England at Rawalpindi, Asif bagged two for 14, including the scalp of England captain Marcus Trescothick.

Abdul Razzaq, who has taken 67 wickets in 37 Tests, played his last Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park seven months ago.

He was sidelined for five months because of tennis elbow but returned for the one-day series against England.

Before India arrived on its second tour in three years, Razzaq was hospitalised because of chest infection and high fever.

Pakistan squad for 2nd Test: Salman Butt, Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan (vice-captain), Mohammad Yousuf, Inzamam-ul-Haq (captain), Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Akhtar, Danish Kaneria and Mohammad Asif.
