Gujarat cruise to victory

January 13, 2006 17:10 IST

Gujarat captain Mukund Parmar stalled the last-minute anxieties to take his team to a well-deserved four-wicket win over Karnataka in the last round of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' match in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Reusming on 106 for 3, Gujarat needed only 37 runs to craft a win but lost three wickets in quick succession towards the end.

Niraj Patel was the first wicket to fall in the morning after a key innings of 66. Karnataka pacer NC Aiyappa followed it up with three scalps to take Gujarat to 136 for six, but overnight batsman Parmar (24 not out) and Watekar (5 not out) took the team to a comfortable win.
