Security heightened for Indian team

February 15, 2006 15:04 IST

Security for the Indian cricket team was beefed up in Multan on Wednesday following fresh protests in the country over cartoons of Prophet Mohammad.

The team, which is in Multan to play the fourth one-day international against Pakistan on Thursday, has been advised not to venture out of the hotel unescorted.

Indian team manager Raj Singh Dungarpur said the caution had been sounded by the Indian High Commission.

"The High Commission called up to say that if at all the team members venture out, they should not go alone," he said.

With protests lined-up for tomorrow as well, stringent security measures have been taken for the day-night encounter.
