England [Images] have appointed Kevin Shine as successor to bowling coach Troy Cooley, with the Somerset academy director expected to join up with the squad touring India in the next few days.

The 36-year-old Shine, who took 249 wickets in his first class career as a seam bowler, was also coach at the English county side from 2001 to 2004.

England Cricket Board (ECB) media manager Andrew Walpole told reporters on Tuesday that Shine would join the team later this week ahead of their upcoming Test and one-day series.

Cooley's contract with the ECB expires in May and he will then return to his native Australia to take over as the national side's bowling coach after a successful three-year stint with England.

England are scheduled to play three Tests and a seven-match one-day series in India. The first Test starts in Nagpur on March 1.
