Despite an all-round performance by Rakesh Dhruv, Saurashtra went down to Maharashtra in the West Zone Ranji Trophy league match for the Ramakant Desai Trophy in Vadodara on Sunday.

Dhruv scored an unbeaten 70 and captured three wickets but could not prevent the hosts from a three-wicket defeat.

Maharashtra chose to field and restricted Saurashtra to 180 for five in the allotted 50 overs.

The meager score was a recovery of sorts after the home team had lost three wickets with only one run on the board.

An unbeaten 133-run sixth wicket partnership between Sitanshu Kotak (73) and Rakesh Dhruv (70) helped Saurashtra attain a semblance of respectability.

Rajit Khirid and Aditya Dole shared two wickets each for the visitors.

Maharashtra achieved the target in the 44th over losing seven wickets. Hrishikesh Kanitkar (48), Sumit Chavan (26) and Ranjit Khirid (25) were the main contributors for the victors.
