Jermaine Lawson to train under Lillee

August 28, 2006 18:54 IST

West Indies fast bowler Jermaine Lawson arrived in Chennai on Monday for a 10-day training stint under Dennis Lillee at the MRF Pace Foundation.

Lawson, who made his Test debut for the West Indies in 2002 at Chepauk and then went on to demolish the Australians in the fourth and final Test at Antigua in 2003 with a career-best haul of 7 for 78 in the first innings, was twice reprimanded for suspect action.

After remedial action, he had an unsuccessful England tour in 2004, where he suffered a spinal stress fracture that sidelined him from the Champions Trophy.

The following year saw him with little success but he was back under the spotlight of suspect action during the West Indies' tour of Sri Lanka.

He was again given a clean chit by the ICC and now is looking forward to take "corrective steps" under the tutelage of the former pace bowling legend.

Lawson (51 wickets in 13 Tests, with an average of 29.64, and 17 wickets in 13 one-day matches, an average of 29.29) and his Island mate Andrew Richardson will be training at the academy.

Lillee will also assess the progress of the Indian trainees at the academy during his visit, a statement from the MRF Pace Foundation said.
