The Indian cricket team is likely to play some practice matches in Chennai ahead of the tri-series involving Australia and West Indies [Images] in Malaysia.

Though it is not yet confirmed,  a source in the BCCI said that matches would be played against some local teams of Chennai.

The practice matches have been planned after the cancellation of the Unitech Cup in Sri Lanka [Images], first due to withdrawal of South Africa from the tri-series and then because of the rain-affected bilateral series, which saw only a few overs being bowled.

However, the venue of the matches has not been finalised.

The source said that the venue would be decided after consultation with skipper Rahul Dravid [Images] and coach Greg Chappell [Images].

The tri-series in Kuala Lumpur will be held at the Kinrara Oval from September 12-24.
